Our members have the opportunity to play in club competitions in all 3 sections. Mens monthly events normally include at least one weekday and one week-end day. Vets events are normally on weekdays. Ladies events are normally on Wednesdays. There are Captain’s days in each section and In addition there are numerous mixed events including the Club Championship. There is also a summer ‘Challenge’ competition with organised tee-times on Thursday, Saturday & Sunday which is organised by the golf shop and is open to all-comers.
In addition all three sections have matches on a ‘home and away’ basis with other Kent golf clubs.
Our History
Our 18 Hole and 9 Hole courses are well established and set in attractive parkland. The course was designed by Fred Hawtree. He was educated at Tonbridge School and went to join the family firm of course builders. The firm has designed and renovated numerous courses but notably Fred worked on a renovation of Royal Birkdale in 1967 & 1974. His son, Martin, is also a well-respected course designer, notably the design of Donald Trump’s course in Aberdeen.
The 18 Hole course was opened in 1974, with Sydney Simmons hitting the first shot off of the first tee as the Clubs Captain. Sydney was instrumental in the purchasing of the land when he worked as an Engineer and Surveyor for Tonbridge Council. He oversaw the development of the course with Fred Hawtree. Our popular course has thrived ever since and the 9 Hole course was added later.
